Shravana Hearing Aid center was started in the year 1998 at Ballari with a vision of providing hearing health care services. This was the first such center in this region that had the testing facility for audiological evaluation of the hearing loss of patients with hearing impairment and also dispensing of hearing aids. This was a modest beginning by Shravana Hearing Aid center and operated from a very small place in Ballari. With a view to reach its services to every individual with hearing impairment, 'Shravana Rural Development Medical Foundation and Rehabilitation Welfare Association' was formed which conducted various awareness programs and health check-up camps in most parts of the region adjoining the district of Ballari. However, the formation of 'Shravana Charitable Trust' gave the Shravana group a real platform to serve the poor and needy by not only testing and diagnosing but also by distributing hearing aids absolutely free.

The services of Shravana Charitable Trust started creating ripples in the area and as a result the Government of Andhra Pradesh invited Shravana group to screen and audiologically evaluate all the school going children in the entire Anantpur district under the 'Chinnarulu-Sukhibhava' scheme. This mammoth task was successfully accomplished by Shravana group that won the accolades of many government and non-government bodies of this region.

By then Shravana Hearing Aid center had grown multifold and successfully operated from places like Davangere, Bijapur, Belgaum and Bangalore. The Shravana group not only started on geographical expansion but also in providing numerous services. With the sole purpose of providing therapy sessions to children suffering from various disorders like hearing impairment, autism, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy and mental retardation etc, Shravana group started 'Shravana Pre-School and Training Center'. This school now has enrolled a lot of children from various backgrounds, who seek the intervention of qualified professionals and special educators everyday with the idea of bringing those underprivileged to mainstream. Though Shravana Preschool and Training center wanted to serve more children, it was not able to do so for the want of qualified professionals.

Shravana group wanted to create more such qualified professionals in the field of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology. This noble thought sowed the seeds for creation of 'Shravana Education Trust', which in turn has paved the way for establishment of 'Shravana Institute of Speech and Hearing' at Ballari.
